As you can see from the image above, DoD has indicated that it will only be issuing 15 new prime contracts with CMMC requirements in all of FY2021. FY2021 began on October 1, 2020, and ends September 30, 2021. In a “Micro Keynote” presentation at the AFCEA TechNet Cyber Conference, Katie Arrington, CISO for the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (OUSD(A&S)) and the DoD’s lead on the CMMC program, indicated that the first 15 new prime contracts that will include CMMC requirements will be named “in the next few days”.

This is a significant and exciting step forward for the CMMC program, and we will provide additional information when it is available. Be sure to register for our newsletter to stay informed!

The CMMC-AB’s recent certification of over 100 “Provisional Assessors” will help ensure that those companies who will need certifications prior to contract award can get them in a timely manner. While certification is not needed until after award, if your organization will be submitting a proposal in response to one or more of these prime contracts it is wise to begin preparing for the assessment now. It would also be prudent to begin identifying the C3PAO whose Provisional Assessors or Assessment Team who can meet your certification timelines. To that end, the CMMC Accreditation Body recently released its Marketplace which lists the contact information for Provisional Assessors and Certified 3rd Party Assessment Organizations (C3PAOs).
